SafeTrack is the maintenance plan of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), which runs Metrorail and Metrobus. SafeTrack is designed to accomplish rail-maintenance work in one year that otherwise would take about three years to complete. Sixty percent of the 15 safety surges, long-duration outages on selected line segments, will occur in Northern Virginia. Agencies and localities have created pages for travelers to learn about upcoming track work and identify alternate ways of commuting.
