NVTC Attends VTA’s Legislative Day

Despite the weather, NVTC Immediate Past Chairman David Snyder made it to Richmond on January 25 for the Virginia Transit Association’s Legislative Day. At the evening reception and in a follow-up letter to Governor Terry McAuliffe, Snyder addressed two threats to transit funding in the Commonwealth.

A shortfall in the regional gas tax cost NVTC $13.2 million last year. Localities depend on these funds to meet their obligations to Metro. PRTC lost $10.6 million in revenue, funds that its jurisdictions use to defray the cost of VRE and Omni (local and commuter) bus service.

An impending shortfall in capital bond funding will result in a $75 million reduction in spending for state of good repair, rolling stock and debt financing, among others. This will occur after the Commonwealth Transportation Board allocates the last of the Transportation Revenues Bond in FY 2019.
